It houses the oldest frescoes of the region, illustrating in a simple, yet exquisite way, the princely life of Thakurs of the 18th century and some episodes from Hindu mythology.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Parasrampura is a village in Jhunjhunu district, located about thirty kilometers southeast of Nawalgarh, another culturally important town in the <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/shekhawati-rajasthan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shekhawati region.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The small town does have a few interesting old havelis and temples, but the main interest lies elsewhere, under the dome of a &#8220;Chhatri&#8221; (cenotaph) erected in 1750 in memory of Thakur Shardul Singh (local lord) by his heirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/06\/parasrampura-chhatri-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Parasrampura\" class=\"wp-image-109372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/06\/parasrampura-chhatri-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/06\/parasrampura-chhatri-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/06\/parasrampura-chhatri-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/06\/parasrampura-chhatri-720x480.jpg 720w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/06\/parasrampura-chhatri.jpg 1234w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Chhatri (cenotaph) of the village of Parasrampura<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From a distance, the Chhatri is not that much attractive, placed in a rather poorly maintained courtyard and surrounded by several small minor pavilions. Twelve octagonal pillars support a large dome inside which an abundance of miniature paintings are painted in ocher and black tones. And this is also its uniqueness. Much of the paintings illustrate the penultimate battle of the Ramayana*, when <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/ayodhya-city-lord-rama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rama<\/a> and his armies of monkeys and bears fought Ravana and his hordes of demons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#e7e7e7\">*The Ramayana is the shorter of two Sanskrit-language epics composed between the 3rd century BC. AD and the 3rd century AD. Attributed to the sage Valmiki, it consists of seven chapters and 48,000 verses. The Ramayana is, like the Mahabharata, one of the fundamental texts of Hinduism. In particular, we see a fine illustration of Saraswati, goddess of the arts and knowledge, mounted side-saddle on a sign, her &#8220;vahana&#8221; or divine vehicle.
