Athangudi also rhymes with &#8220;tile makers&#8221;: it is here that the famous colourful Chettinad tiles are made, exported worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sri Letchmi Vilas palace<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Athangudi is a village located 15 km north of Karaikudi. Apart from some Hindu temples, the main attraction of this place is its palace, known as &#8220;Sri Letchmi Vilas&#8221;, or more commonly, Athangudi Palace.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"481\" src=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/athangudi-1024x481.jpg\" alt=\"athangudi\" class=\"wp-image-123441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/athangudi-1024x481.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/athangudi-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/athangudi-720x338.jpg 720w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/athangudi.jpg 1134w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shrimathi Meyyammai Achi and her husband Shri N. AR. Nachiappa Chettiar, the founders of the palace<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Construction of the palace began in 1929, commissioned by Shri. N. AR. Nachiappa Chettiar, son of Shri. N. It has no fewer than sixty rooms and more than 600 windows!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The building is named &#8220;Sri Letmi Vilas&#8221;, &#8220;Letchmi&#8221; being the name of the mother and daughter of Shri N. AR. Nachiappa Chettiar<\/strong>.
