Deep within the dense forests of Chhota Udepur, in <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/must-see-places-gujarat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gujarat<\/a>, the Dhanak community jealously guards an ancestral secret: lacquered pottery. Here, tribal ingenuity outpaces modern technology to offer a healthy, eco-friendly, and naturally non-stick way of cooking.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It was not until my third journey to the <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/pithora-the-art-ritual-of-rathwa-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chhota Udepur<\/a> district that the veil was lifted on this little-known craft. <\/strong>My visit to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bhasharesearch.org\/adivasi-academy\/about\">Adivasi Academy<\/a>, a fervent guardian of India\u2019s indigenous art, served as the catalyst for this pivotal encounter with the Dhanak potters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/dhanak-pottery-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a0Dhanak\u00a0\" class=\"wp-image-134007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/dhanak-pottery-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/dhanak-pottery-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/dhanak-pottery-720x480.jpg 720w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/dhanak-pottery.jpg 1134w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Dhanak Potters&#8217; Village<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Dhanak village lies hidden behind a labyrinth of forest paths. <\/strong>Several times, we had to roll down the window to ask for directions, so as not to get lost amidst this lush green scenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/mahua-flower-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a0Dhanak\u00a0\" class=\"wp-image-134001\" srcset=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/mahua-flower-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/mahua-flower-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/mahua-flower-720x480.jpg 720w, https:\/\/magikindia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2028\/04\/mahua-flower.jpg 1134w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Some Mahua flowers are drying; they will be used, among other things, to concoct the local beverage of the same name.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The dwellings of the Dhanak mirror their way of life: simple and rooted in the earth, constructed from walls of brick and palm fronds, and topped with earthen tile roofs.<\/strong> As members of the &#8220;Scheduled Tribes,&#8221; the Dhanak are deeply embedded in the landscape of Gujarat and its neighboring states, <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/10-must-see-places-rajasthan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rajasthan <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/maharashtra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maharashtra<\/a>.
