After exploring the world of the <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/rabari-people\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rabari<\/a> of Kutch and Saurashtra, I now take you to meet the Rathwa, an ethnic group with a fascinating heritage. Between the mystical protection of their sacred groves and the excitement of their festivals, they reveal to us a world where pictorial art and age-old traditions forge a culture of rare intensity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Origins of the Rathwa people<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The name &#8220;Rathwa&#8221; is closely linked to their geographical history. The most popular theory suggests that they got their name from\u00a0Rath-Vistar, a mountainous and forested region once located in the ancient princely state of<a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/rajpipla-a-city-with-old-world-charm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Rajpipla.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historically, the Rathwa are considered a branch of the Bhils, although today they assert a distinct social and cultural identity. today anchored their lives in the cycle of the seasons as farmers.<\/strong> Their land is devoted to the cultivation of corn, millet and various legumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The most emblematic expression of the Rathwa identity undoubtedly lies in the art of\u00a0Pithora, a practice which transcends simple decoration to assert itself religion constitutes a complex spiritual system where animism and ancestral traditions predominate over a surface Hindu influence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image Devta<\/em><\/strong>. A true bulwark against chaos, this tutelary deity shields the village from life&#8217;s adversities. In times of crisis, the community rallies to &#8220;appease&#8221; its guardian through specific rituals. For the Rathwas, misfortune signals a disruption of harmony, and only by restoring this sacred bond can order and prosperity be regained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The &#8220;Devsthan&#8221;: the sacred grove<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sacred groves (Devsthan) are the beating heart of Rathwa spirituality. It is the pillar around which the narrative art of the mural paintings is organized.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Baba Dev:<\/strong> Generic term for the protective spirits of the village.
