It was the capital of <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/north-india\/gujarat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gujarat <\/a>until 1411, when the sultan Ahmed Shah moved his capital to <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/ahmedabad-gujarat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ahmedabad<\/a>. It now owes its fame to its magnificent Rani-Ki-Vav stepwell, a Unesco World Heritage site, built under the Solanki period. The cheapest cost about 140 000 roupies (\u20ac2000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Of the original 700 families of Patan patola weavers there are now only three who continue the traditional double-ikat technique<\/strong>. One of these families, the Salvi family, has built the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.patanpatola.com\" target=\"_blank\">Patan Patola Heritage Museum<\/a> not far from the Rani-Ki-Vav. It is one of the largest. One of the largest is the Panchasara Parsvanatha. It is dedicated to Parsvanath, the 23rd Tirthankar (Jain saint), who lived in the 9th century BCE.
