Crowning the summit, Palitana unfolds the largest and most grandiose Jain complex in the world, a veritable celestial city where only the gods reside.<\/strong> More than 800 white marble temples cluster there, harmoniously distributed within nine fortified enclosures known as tuks<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At its center sits a one-meter-tall effigy of Bhagawan Shantinath, the sixteenth Tirthankara, carved from a block of pure white marble whose mineral serenity seems to suspend time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
