Wealthy Marwari merchants built huge mansions there, decorated inside and out with sumptuous frescoes in which Hindu mythology mingles with scenes from daily life. He is related to the Rajput Kachhwaha clan of Jaipur-Amber. In 1471 CE, he refused to pay tribute to the Kachhawaha rulers and declared his independence. By the 18th century, almost the entire Shekhawati region came under the control of the Shekhawats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Shekhawati was ruled by the Shekhawat Rajputs until India&#8217;s independence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Marwaris Merchands<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rajasthan has been a necessary passage for trade caravans since ancient times.<\/strong> They take the route from Delhi to Sindh via <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/bikaner-rajasthan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bikaner <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/jaisalmer-rajasthan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jaisalmer.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In the early 18th century, Rajasthan&#8217;s roads became safer and shorter,<\/strong> and it escaped <a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/en\/maharashtra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Maharashtra&#8217;s <\/a>rebellions against the Mughal Empire. However, internal quarrels and a deficit treasury forced the rulers of Jaipur to impose heavy taxes on their territories. Organised jointly by the tourism board and the Morarka Foundation, the Shekhawati festival includes guided tours, handicrafts, a livestock fair, organic cooking classes and award ceremonies. It has a good number of havelis in more or less good condition.
