The name of Elephanta was given by 17th-century Portuguese explorers who discovered a monolithic elephant sculpture by the entrance to the caves. This sculpture is now at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=Bhau+Daji+Lad+Museum&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Bhau Daji Lad Museum<\/strong> <\/a>in Mumbai. Some researchers find elements of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/magikindia.com\/badami\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Badami Chalukya<\/a><\/strong> architecture from southern India, as well as architectural styles from the Gupta Empire.
