My story with India

Namaskaram, Padharo ! I’m Mathini, a French woman who has been living in Rajasthan for the last 10 years. Despite being imbued with Indian culture from a young age it wasn’t until 2014 that my Indian adventure really began. I left everything behind in France (yes, absolutely everything!) and set off on a 6-year journey through the land of Gandhi, eventually settling down in Udaipur, the romantic city of lakes.

These rich adventures are gathered in this blog and led me to create my own travel agency in India, MATHINI TRAVEL PVT LTD which specialises in tailor-made cultural trips throughout the Indian subcontinent.

Although my story does not end there! During my explorations I met the one who would become my life partner … So now, here I am, totally immersed in the heart of Indian culture!

This blog aspires, in an intentionally positive spirit, to bear witness to India’s remarkably diverse and multifaceted cultural heritage. It serves as a platform from which I am able to express my passion for this incredible country which has whole-heartedly adopted and bewitched me.

If this website sparks a desire to pack your bags and set off for an Indian adventure, it will have achieved its purpose.

Dear Mathini
What a marvelous discovery of your travel agency as I was looking up Osian. Im watching the BBC 4 part train 2018 Great Indian Railway Journeys and they had a day there.

In January this year I started to research a 2 month trip to India for Sept 2020 as I had hoped to be in Brisbane babysitting my grandchildren and it was a relatively cheaper flight from there to New Delhi then from Vancouver Canada. Sadly, COVID 19 arrived and Im still waiting to see if I can get into Australia. India will need to be in 2021 Fall I think.

Any info you can provide re: when India will open for travel will be most appreciated. Ive completed solo round the world x 2 with backpack and as a 69yr old lady my next big trip solo is India. Look forward to your blogs and newsletters.

  Thanks for your kind message. It’s nice to get news from BC Canada, I used to travel quite a lot there! Just loved that part of Canada.
  Regarding India and when it will be open to travel, it’s the big unknown for the moment. The COVID currently peaks in India and I don’t think international flights will be resuming before mid-August. So I do hope in October or November, India will be able to welcome tourists again. 🙂

       We travelled for 2 weeks in Ladakh with Mathini Travel.
We visited Zanskar, Leh, Hunder White Dunes Desert and Tso Moriri Lake.
We saw beautiful Buddhist monasteries and incredible landscapes
It was perfectly organised.
I highly recommend this agency.

     Nous sommes partis en novembre/decembre pour 3.5 semaines au Gujarat grâce à Mathini Travel. Mathini nous avait concocté un très beau voyage à travers cet état. tout s'est très bien passé et nous avons pu découvrir beaucoup de tribus, arts, temples dans cet état peu touristique. l'organisation était parfaite.  Je recommande vivement l'agence et je repartirais avec elle pour un prochain voyage..

     J'ai fait appel à Mathini pour m'accompagner pour un voyage solo d'1 mois et demi dans le Karnataka. Les conseils, la réactivité, la précision des informations ont été précieux pour moi.
La connaissance profonde de l'Inde et l'amour pour ce pays sont palpables dans son accompagnement. Très à l'écoute, elle fait en sorte de concevoir le voyage que vous souhaitez.
Je ferai très probablement appel à cette agence de nouveau.

     Nous sommes partis en couple presque 2 mois en Inde avec Mathini Travel (1 mois Gujarat, 1 étape à Mumbai et 2 semaines dans le Tamil Nadu). J'ai échangé longuement avec Mathini pour la préparation du séjour. Le programme proposé a parfaitement correspondu à nos attentes (rencontres avec l'habitant, les hôtels de charme, mentions spéciales pour les homestays). Mathini a su nous conseiller sur des visites spécifiques sur Mumbai que nous connaissions déjà (visites guidées sur les Parsi et Dharavi). Toujours à l'écoute, très réceptive en cas d'aléas (exemple : téléphérique annulé suite à orages sur le mont Ginar et reporté au lendemain). Guides et chauffeurs au top.
C'était notre 4eme voyage en Inde, le prochain se fera certainement avec Mathini peut être dans l'Orissa , Calcutta, ...

     J'ai enfin réalisé ce qui était un rêve de longue date : partir en Inde, en particulier dans le Rajasthan.
Grâce à de nombreux échanges avec Mathini, de Mathini Travel, nous avons préparé ensemble notre voyage, et Mathini a su parfaitement répondre à mes demandes, parfois un peu spécifiques ;-)
Ce voyage de 4 semaines, dont un passage à Varanasi,
a comblé mes souhaits.
Nous sommes partis à 4 (2 couples d'amis). Tout a été fluide. Notre chauffeur, Gajju, a été exceptionnel de par son attention permanente, sa gentillesse, sa disponibilité, sa conduite irréprochable (et la circulation en Inde, c'est quelque chose !...).
Le choix des hotels a été très judicieux par rapport à notre programme. Il y a eu quelques aléas avec les guides, mais cela ne dépendait malheureusement pas de Mathini.
Nous avons eu la chance de découvrir la région du Shekhawati avec Dinesh : un régal. Il est passionné et passionnant !
Il y a eu de nombreux moments forts que nous ne sommes pas près d'oublier et vont nous nourrir encore longtemps.
Je suis particulièrement contente d'avoir choisi Mathini et son professionnalisme, sa passion de l'Inde et sa grande connaissance de ce pays.
Il est évident pour moi que je la recommande !

     Nous avons fait un voyage avec mathini Travel, d'habitude nous voyageons sans agence, mais on a eu envie d'être chouchouter, ravie d'avoir choisi mathini pour ses messages et ses conseils en amont du voyage et pour le déroulement du voyage.      Très beau voyage au Zanskar et Ladakh organisé par l'agence Mathini en Juin et Juillet. Suivi en continu par l'agence qui a résolu rapidement quelques petits problèmes sur place . Un très bon chauffeur -guide tout le long du trip . Des correspondants locaux efficaces et sympas .Les logements  étaient confortables .Une belle ambiance avec 3 festivals bouddhistes au programme . Bien profités des nouvelles routes qui désenclavent le Zanskar . Au top !!!! D'ailleurs , je repars avec Mathini en Février !!!

     Merci Mathini, qui avez su nous élaborer un voyage hors des sentiers battus pendant un mois en nov-dec 2022 dans l'Odisha et le Chhattisgarh à la rencontre des différentes ethnies de ces 2 états et, tout particulièrement, l'immersion dans le village des Bondas, le peuple le plus fascinant de l'Odisha. Nous remercions aussi nos guides khana et Jitu ainsi que notre chauffeur Promod qui ont été merveilleux. Chère Mathini, votre rire et votre gentillesse sont exceptionnels.      Nous sommes partis en couple au Rajasthan en février 2023. Comme c’était notre premier voyage dans cette région de l’Inde, nous avons visité les villes classiques, Jaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur… Tout s’est parfaitement bien passé et notre chauffeur était aux petits soins. Nous reviendrons très certainement au Rajasthan pour des lieux un peu plus inédits et nous ferons sans problème appel à Mathini Travels de nouveau.

     If anyone of my friends or family come to India and plan to travel in the north or south, there is one company that I would highly recommend, and that’s Mathini Travel. Though based in Udaipur, they have extensive knowledge about all parts of India. Prior to starting the company, the founder, Mathini spent over a decade traveling all over India, by plane, train and bus before settling in Rajasthan. There is not one place she hasn’t traveled to. Her husband and co-owner Dinesh is a native of Rajasthan and often accompanies groups on their excursions because of his extensive knowledge. They are both very personable, knowledgeable and helped me find my way around Rajasthan and beyond. They assisted my travels throughout Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Hyderabad, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. They are the real deal and I cannot recommend Mathini Travel enough! As a solo female traveler, safety was a number one priority , and they answered all my questions and made my India travel experience unforgettable. I have referred all my friends and family to them.  Give them a call and have any fears or anxieties about your India travel eased with Mathini Travel. I highly recommend them!
