Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF)

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival or RIFF is held yearly in Jodhpur, at Sharad Purnima (the brightest full moon of the year, usually in October), and lasts four days. It draws considerable crowds of world music fans, both Indian and foreign.

The festival, first held in 2007, is organised by the Mehrangarh Museum Trust and the Jaipur Virasat foundation. Each year over a hundred acts come to perform

The festival promotes the art of Rajasthani music while also bringing in international acts such as Manu Chao (France), Yemen Blues (Yemen), Bao Sissoko (Senegal) and Burhan Γ–Γ§al (Turkey).

Concerts start at dawn and go on late into the night at Mehrangarh Fort and the Jaswant Thada. The rhythm never lets up and you should plan for a few sleepless nights.

The devotional chants at dawn in Rao Jodha Park or at the Jaswant Thada are perfectly divine against the sumptuous backdrop of the sun’s first rays gently colouring the fort in a saffron colour.

This festival is an absolute must-go.
